Rachel has written an article for UK based Early Arts – a great early years group advocating more arts practice in early years settings.
“As far as I have currently researched, there are no specific early years theatre companies here in Western Australia. In Perth, Buzz Dance theatre has created productions for 4 years upwards with ‘Walk the Fence’. This production is in collaboration with Jigsaw Theatre from Canberra, exploring a girl’s overwhelming emotions in a magical street, where the audience sit in the action. Spare Parts Puppet Theatre also creates children’s shows for 4+ years but nothing specifically for the developmental stages in early years. Barking Gecko Theatre Company has just initiated ‘The Generation Project’ to provide Seed Grants to support the creation of new and original works for young children by theatre artists.
A quote from Windmill Theatre, Adelaide website – ‘Performance, the imagined and enacted world of human beings, is one of the primary ways children learn about life – about actions and consequences, about customs and beliefs, about others and themselves.’“
